Share Market Holidays – 2022

The Indian stock market indices i.e. National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) both operate daily from Monday to Friday throughout the year. The Indian stock market is closed on weekends (Saturday and Sunday).

Apart from the usual weekends, the Indian stock market also observes a list of certain public holidays during which the share market is closed for trading. Every year the Exchange declares a list of stock market holidays for that respective year

  • Upcoming Share Market Holidays:

The list of share market holidays for the year 2022 has been listed on both NSE and BSE websites. The first share market holiday for the year 2022 will fall on the 26th of January on the occasion of Republic Day while the last stock market holiday for the year 2022 falls on the 8th of November 2022 that’s marks the occasion of Gurunanak Jayanti. There are no share market holidays in February, June, as well as September for the year 2022.

Also, there are certain holidays that fall on weekends such as Ram Navmi, Maharashtra Day, Bakri Id, Gandhi Jayanti, and Christmas. The fact that certain share market holidays for the year 2022 overlap with weekends has reduced the list of holidays for traders. This brings the total number of stock market holidays to only 13 this year excluding holidays falling on weekends.

There will be no trade in the Equity Segment, Equity Derivative Segment as well as SLB (Securities Lending & Borrowing) Segment in the share market due to the 13 holidays as listed by the Exchange.

Also, there’s a special trading session of ‘Muhurat Trading’ that takes place on the occasion of Diwali which is a holiday. So the stock market is open for a special 1-hour trading session which is known as ‘Muhurat Trading’ on the occasion of Laxmi Pujan. The timings of Muhurat Trading will be notified by the Stock Exchange subsequently.
